PRISONER OF TIME 1 © 2007

I distance myself from people,

Not out of a lack of liking or understanding them,

But because falsehood and selfishness

Become mirrors in which I do not wish to see myself.

Including myself, I am part of this game,

I also pretend, I also lie,

Wearing masks that the world demands,

Hiding truths that the heart insists.

It is a vicious cycle, a dance of disguises,

Where sincerity is lost in fleeting gestures,

And in the attempt to be genuine,

I end up distancing myself, seeking silence first.

I prefer solitude to empty company,

Where every word is calculated,

Where truth is distorted,

And love is a currency exchanged.

I distance myself, not out of contempt or resentment,

But to find the peace that only silence brings,

Even knowing that, deep down,

I am also part of this theatre,

Where everyone pretends, including me.
