PRISONER OF TIME 1 © 2007

I speak only the minimum and essential

In social etiquette,

While others converse in a torrent,

I keep myself sheltered, observing the scene,

At times, I am merely a spectator

In the midst of a rumbling audience.

Words come to me in small doses,

Avoiding the excess that many prefer,

For in the economy of speech,

I find the truth I seek.

I watch conversations flow in torrents,

Surrounded by voices intertwining,

And while everyone immerses themselves in words,

I observe, in silence, each nuance.

It is in the murmur of the crowd

That I perceive myself as distinct,

I prefer to be the pause between sounds,

The one who listens more than speaks,

And finds meaning in quietude,

Even when the world around

Loses itself in its own noise.

I speak little, but when I do,

I do so with intention and clarity,

While the audience loses itself in rumour,

I find peace in my own restraint.
