GREAT SOUL IN MY COUNTRY 2 © 2008
O unexpected death, silent in your coming,
I do not feel your arrival, but you are an endless presence.
Ugly and sorrowful in appearance, but, if you permit me to see,
In you I find beauty, in what I cannot describe.
A light from the other side, not so dazzling,
But enough to fascinate my believing soul,
With the transcendent glow that emanates from beyond,
It makes me believe that life continues, too.
In the actions of the soul, which pain has not diminished,
With tears washing the dirt that time has corroded.
The uncertainty that has persisted over the years,
Is the spine that did not break, but has slowly bent.
For the damages suffered, for the sorrows carried,
For the weight of pains, of wrong choices,
O death, in your shadow, I find redemption,
And in the light you bring, I see the continuity of creation.
