A CRY FOR FREEDOM © 2008

I am a foretaste of myself,

Suffering before the pain itself,

And rejoicing before the moment,

Always living in an internal prelude,

Where the future is already sketched in the present,

And each emotion anticipates, in constant motion.

I live always in personal defence,

Like an invisible, but real, shield,

Protecting the mind from what might come,

In a gesture of mental hygiene,

Where each thought is a preparation,

For what life might, suddenly, demand.

It is a state of alert, a self-care,

So that the unexpected does not catch me unawares,

And, in anticipation, I find balance,

Between what I am now and what I will be, eventually.
