A CRY FOR FREEDOM © 2008
I am too aware
To be immersed in this time,
Where superficiality is prevalent,
And depth finds little solace.
No one is able to recognise it,
Perhaps fearing to elevate me,
To admit that I am more than I appear,
And that my spirit transcends the moment.
There is a latent fear of seeing me ascend,
Lofty, to a level they do not understand,
Without realising that I already occupy my place,
In History, where time does not stand still,
Defending my legacy as an emotive poet,
With verses that touch what is eternal and alive.
And thus, in my profound awareness,
I continue, even if they cannot follow me,
For I know that my soul is fertile.
And I leave poetry, my way of shining,
As a testament to what I am and will be,
In a world that one day, perhaps, will awaken
To what now only silence sees.
