LETTERS TO DESTINY © 2012
Good sailors also shipwreck
Before the great storms,
For the sea does not choose whom it devours,
Whether by force or by slow waters.
Even those who know how to read the stars
And feel the wind on their skin,
Sometimes are swallowed
By the fury of a cruel wave.
It is not the lack of skill,
Nor the ignorance of the sea,
But the relentless force of life
That makes even the strong hesitate.
Good sailors shipwreck,
Because destiny is capricious,
And the helm, no matter how steady,
Cannot avoid the audacious unexpected.
But at the bottom of the abyss,
Where the waters seem eternal,
There is a lesson of humility
That only the brave can endure.
For those who know the deep sea
Understand that shipwreck is part of being,
And that returning to the surface
Is learning to be reborn.
